Course Update – 16 October 2024

Vegetation Spring Walk

On Tuesday 8 October, 38 members participated in our annual Spring Walk with our Course and Vegetation Leadership team, along with Kate Torgensen – our Vegetation Consultant. Members enjoyed understanding the many and various aspects relating to the vegetation management and its importance for the courses.

We continue to invest heavily in protecting, developing, and managing a sustainable environment for our 11 unique EVCs (Ecological Vegetation Classes) of vegetation to survive and thrive as well as providing attractive habitat in these zones for fauna to exist throughout the facility.  The walk showcased many of the striking heathland plants, native grass species and orchids currently in flower.

A new addition to the tour was a visit to some on our newly installed Microbat boxes. Microbats are the main night time predator of insects and therefore play a crucial ecological role in regulating insect numbers in the areas they live. Many species consumed are pest species such as mosquitoes, flies and moths whose larva damage plants and crops.

The Spring Walks will be undertaken in early October on an annual basis, and we encourage all interested members to participate.
